Welcome 2021! ~ Looking Forward, Looking Backwards

First of all, I want to thank everyone who took the time to read my blogs last year. I have appreciated the comments, encouragement, and the input you shared with me. It was a trying year for all and I pray that 2021 will be a banner year for everyone.

At the beginning of last year I decided to challenge myself to start writing a blog a day. My husbands health had gotten to a point that I could no longer take on clients in my Genealogy business, mainly because each day I was finding I had less time to devote to it. I had a rough start as I wasn’t sure if I could find enough interesting ancestors to write about. Taking on the 52 Ancestors 52 Weeks challenge helped me focus on developing a method that worked for me. I am excited to be able to say that last year I wrote a total of 413 blogs!

This year I have decided to once again write a blog a day. I have signed up for the 52 Ancestors challenge again and I plan on adding new categories to the daily blog list. I discovered that having a theme to write about keeps me motivated! I have also determined that I want to write more “how to” blogs, and maybe even ones with a more historical perspective.

The possibilities are endless and with each blog I realize that the ancestor that I write about has taught me something about myself. Good, bad, or indifferent, I embrace it. What I do know for sure is, I really look forward to this coming year as I look back at my families time here on earth, so that I can honor them.

I am a professional genealogist, writer, photographer, wife, mother, and grandma. I have two books available on Amazon.com: Your Family History: Doing It Right the First Time and Planning Your Genealogy Research Trip. You can also connect with me via Facebook or Twitter.

  1. Valerie, I so enjoy your posts! Happy new year and I look forward to seeing how much else is in common between us! (p.s. I also had a child very young and raised him alone for his first few years)
