Picture Perfect Saturday #18 ~ Eliza Jane Ogan

I am currently working on my Family Genealogy Group page for Facebook. In doing so I realized I have a tremendous amount of photos. I decided to feature one a week. No, not everyone is “perfect” however, they are to me!

This week I am showcasing my paternal 1st cousin 2 times removed, Eliza Jane Ogan Simcosky.

Eliza was born on July 15, 1867, in Windsor, Henry County, Missouri. This photo is very special treasure. It was taken in December of 1899, and it includes Eliza and her 3 children, (L-R) Phillip, Cora, Eliza, and Dollie. Eliza is 32 years old, but she doesn’t look much older than the children. I love their clothing as it looks like they are wearing their “Sunday Best”. They all look so serious and that might be because Eliza was very ill in this photo. On August 19, 1900, just 8 months later, Eliza passed away at the age of 33.

I am a professional genealogist, writer, photographer, wife, mother, and grandma. I have two books available on Amazon.com: Your Family History: Doing It Right the First Time and Planning Your Genealogy Research Trip. You can also connect with me via Facebook or Twitter.

  1. I love that era and pictures from it.

  2. Wonderful memento. It always makes me sad when there are no photos of someone, particularly when they die young.
